    Phonological Acquisition of A Child Suffering from Language Delay

    This study deals with language acquisition which investigates the phonological acquisition of a child suffering from language delay. A case study design with cross-sectional survey type is used and it was conducted at Jl. Ujung Serdang, Komp. Cendana Asri No 21 Tanjung Morawa Medan, North Sumatera Indonesia, where a five year old child was chosen to be the subject. In collecting the data, this study applies documentation with audio visual recorder as the instrument of collecting data and the technique of data analysis used in this study was descriptive technique, then the data were described through the process of transcribing and reducing the data by the process of selecting, focusing, simplifying, transforming the transcripts of the data, then displaying the data and finally drawing the conclusions. The findings indicate that the subjects of this study who suffers from language delay in his five year old had mastered vocabularies covering noun, adjective, verb, and adverb, and the data show that he acquired more noun comparing to adjective, verb and adverb. In case of phonological acquisition, seven phonological processes were found: stopping process, fronting process, voicing process, clustering reduction process, deleting of final consonant process, deleting of unstressed process and reduplicating process. In expressing the language in his daily life, sometimes he used the body language to help him deliver the message

    The Importance of Politeness and Linguistics Aspects in Translation to Avoid Rejection

    This study aims to investigate the importance of translators\u27 language politeness and linguistics aspects as a way to avoid rejection. The study method used was a descriptive qualitative study with a library research design. It is done at Universitas Kristen Indonesia from September 2021 to January 2022. The type of data used in this study is qualitative data, which describes some opinions, concepts, or theories that describe or present problems related to the topic of this study. Research data is taken from sources in books, journals, and offline articles. The result of the study is that the higher the understanding and mastery of the linguistic aspects of a translator, the better the translating work will be, and the translators\u27 language politeness also influences the high and low value of acceptability. For the translation to be well received, the translators must present the translation using good vocabulary and a sentence structure that is not rigid and polite in its delivery. The translators\u27 language politeness also makes the translation more effective and has high communication values

    The Effectiveness of Independent Learning Method on Students’ Speaking Achievement at Christian University of Indonesia Jakarta

    This study is about the effectiveness of independent learning method on students’ speaking achievement, and it was done to know whether independent learning method is effective on improving students’speaking achievement. The method of this study was classroom action research, and it was done at the Christian University of Indonesia located on Jl. Mayjen Sutoyo No. 2 Cawang, East Jakarta. The subject of this study was the fourth-semester students of English Department. Speaking test, documentation using an audiovisual recorder, diary note, and observation sheet were used as instruments of this study. The data taken were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed. The results of the study show that there is an improvement on students’ speaking achievement (51.07%), it means that independent learning method is effective in improving students’speaking achievement. Then it is concluded the students’ speaking ability improved when they were taught using independent learning method, so it is suggested that teachers should apply independent learning as one of the strategies to improve students’ speaking skill

    THE INTEGRATION OF GROUP DISCUSSION METHOD USING AUDIO VISUAL LEARNING MEDIA TOWARD STUDENTS’ LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT ON LISTENING

    This research is focus on the integration of group discussion method using audio visual learning media. The aim of conducting this research is to find out how the integration of group discussion method using audio visual learning media toward the students learning achievement on listening. The method of the study used was qualitative with Quasy Experimental design. It was done at Teruna Muda Jurnior High School. The instrument used were a set of test and observation sheets. The result of the research are: a) that the everage result using QA method using the audio visual learning is 74; and b) student learning outcomes using the QA method with audio media is no better than the student learning outcomes provided with conventional learning models using audio media. Then it is concluded that the teachers may implement the QA method or conventional learning in teaching listening to the students in the classroom

    THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MASTERY LEARNING TECHNIQUE ON IMPROVING STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN COMPLETING ENGLISH NATIONAL EXAMINATION

    This research is aimed at finding the effectiveness of mastery learning technique on improving students' ability in completing the English National Examination. This study was done at Bimbingan Belajar Gereja HKBP Sutotoyo, Jakarta. The research method used was quantitative research with "pre and post-test design", using two groups of research subjects. The population of the study 88 students consisted of Primary School (23 people) and Senior High School Students (62 persons), and the sample of the students was the Junior High School Students which was divided into group namely experimental group (33 persons) and control group (32 persons) which were selected using clustering sampling. The instrument of the research was a set of English Final Examination. The finding of the research is that the t-value is greater than t-table (4.323> 2,000) and the significance value is smaller than the significance level of 0.05 (0.000 <0.05). Then it is concluded that mastery learning technique significantly affects the students' ability in completing the English National Examination at Bimbingan Belajar HKBP Sutoyo, Jakarta. So, it is suggested that mastery learning technique should be implemented to improve the students' ability in completing the English National Examination

This article was a qualitativeresearch which is developed by using library study, where, infinding out the management of lecturers' competencedevelopment is, books, journals and other documents relatedto the topics used as the source information on this article.The results were; a) in developing lecturers' competencydevelopment programs used environmental analysisconsisting of internal environment analysis and externalenvironment analysis; b) formulation of strategies for thedevelopment of lecturer's professional and pedagogicalcompetence as an effort in improving the learning quality byforming teams, formulating strategic plans, anddisseminating information; c) activities carried out inplanning the development of lecturer competencies as aneffort as an effort in improving the learning quality at UKI;d) activities carried out in the implementation of thedevelopment of lecturer and professional-pedagogicalcompetencies as an effort to improve the quality of learningare based on plans from institutions, faculties, studyprograms, and also at the initiative of the lecturersthemselves; e) supervision activities from the results of thedevelopment of pedagogical competencies and professionalcompetencies of lecturers in both universities are almost thesame, and f) activities carried out in the assessment of thedevelopment of pedagogical and professional competence oflecturers as an effort to improve the quality of learning inUKI.
